I kid hit me up at Kroger the other day for money for uniforms for his Deaf Baseball team. I'm leaning on the fence if this was legit or he was scamming me. There was an older adult with him in a "security" type vest. Anyone know anything about this sort of thing. I only gave him two bucks but it seems a little fishy.

Most of the time when kids come up to you asking for money to support their sports teams in Memphis, it's a scam. There was a story on Channel 5 News a couple of years ago about some kids harassing people at the Sanderlin Shopping Center in East Memphis by trying to sell them overpriced candy bars, allegedly for the White Station High basketball team. School was out so there was no high school basketball being played, and when Andy Wise asked them who the principal at White Station High was, they didn't even know his name...

There are deaf sports leagues:

Deaf Sports

Of course, there's no way of knowing if the people you saw were legit.

You can always stop and ask them about their program and see what they say.

Next time, decline and call the police. Ignoring them and/or giving them money makes it worse for all of us because they want to continue. If they were legit, there would be tables or something more than 2 people walking around with their hand out.

White Station High does have a fairly sizable deaf program, if it might give you peace of mind maybe give them a call and see if they have heard anything about it. They might even appreciate a heads up if there is a scam going on in the area.
