Hi

I will be moving to Collierville by Nov end. I was searching for apartment and cars; I have following questions:

1. Apartments - in the middle of collierville are too expensive. I found if you go slightly out, ther are in 600-700 range. Can you suggest some apartments in this range in a safe area. I have been advised to stay away from Memphis suburbs. Dont have kids so no schooling issues

2. Since I will stay outside, I will need car. Craiglist didnt have any good deal so I will have to buy from dealer. Any suggestions here.

Thanks in advance!

Is there any reason you have to be in Collierville? If you are renting and do not have kids, I don't see any reason to stay away from living in Memphis or other suburbs. Those are really the two main reasons for not living in the city or some of the suburbs - home price/size and neighborhood stability, and schools. Why not rent a home in east Memphis, Cordova or Bartlett? Much cheaper. Like you said, not much in Germantown or Collierville to rent, especially at that price. Have you considered the MS suburbs, they are pretty close to Collierville?

You have been advised to stay away from the burbs, so you are looking in the burbs? Collierville is very much a suburb of Memphis. I don't understand. Collierville is a pricy area. If I were you, I'd would look for a place to live close to where you will be working. You buy a car here, same as anywhere. I'm not sure what you're asking. The largest concentration of car dealerships, by far is on Covington Pike, just north of the 240 exit. There are also a few near 64 and Germantown road.

Apologies for not being clear.

My work place is in collierville. But it is costly.

It will be helpful if someone can tell me good apartment place around collierville (dont mind 20-25 min drive) which is within budget and safe.

For cars I was just asking if any dealer stands out in terms of good reputation. any help will be great

If you are okay with a 25 minute drive to Collierville for work, you could live just about anywhere. Frankly you could probably make it from downtown to Collierville in 25 minutes since you'd be going the opposite way of most traffic. Have you done any research on the area to see where you'd like to live? Collierville is pretty far out there and is mostly for families. I am taking a guess that you'll be working at FedEx and since you don't have a car right now, you might be younger? A younger single person probably won't enjoy living in Collierville. If your budget is $700 that isn't going to get you much anywhere in this area, but you could probably get a small apartment in the suburbs I mentioned before for that price. Or, rent something in midtown or east Memphis. Memphis and the suburbs are pretty small, so people live just about anywhere in the county (and outside the county) and travel in/out for work.

You're going to have to give us more to go on. How old are you, what do you like to do? Memphis has tons of safe communities that cater to all sorts of desires. Like Cristen said, a 25 minute commute is going to put you almost within reach of anywhere in Memphis. The deepest parts of Midtown are difficult to commute from due to a lack of access to functional interstate (Sam Cooper Blvd is a time suck), but other than that you're good.

Check out Miller Creek apartments - just outside of CVille if you're young.

We used City Auto for a used car and were pleased.

I will repeat what the others said, your age and interests are important to share!

What part of Collierville will you be working? Winchester/FedEx area or Poplar area towards the Town Center? If it's towards the FedEx campus, you might be able to find some nice places on Winchester around Forest Hill and Hack's Cross that are convenient. Miller Creek is a large apartment community (as ColliervilleMom suggested) and is in that area.

There are some apartments near the Town Square on Center Street north of Keough that might be in that price range you mentioned. They aren't the fanciest place you can find though.

Most of the newer apartments in Collierville are $850-$900 or more for a 1 bedroom.

For car dealers, we've used Sunrise on Houston Levee and highway 385 in Collierville and the Dobbs/Autonation Honda location out at Covington Pike in Memphis. City Auto (Memphis) and Landers (Collierville) seem to both be popular as well, judging by the number of dealer decals on cars around the Memphis metro.

Now that the new highway has opened, some Apartments out towards Arlington and Wolfchase might now be a short drive to Collierville than they used to be.

Collierville has a brand new Dodge, RAM, Jeep dealership at the intersection of I-385 and Byhalia Road. The most known in the area is Landers Ford on Poplar Avenue and Houston Levee Road. They are great to work with.
