sports bar to watch the SEC championship game relatively close to our hotel at Poplar and 240?

If we decide to venture further out for barbeque on Friday night, what do you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Looking forward to coming back to Memphis.

Good BBQ is Central, Showboat, and Corky's. Corky's is a good place to watch the SEC championship game. I honestly though would recommend beale street. I know it cliche but still. They have some good bar in Mid-Town to. Corky's is closest to poplar and 240 though.

If you're at Poplar and 240, you're close to One & Only BBQ and not too far from Germantown Commissary. Both are delicious!

Sorry, I'm not really clued in to sports bars, though.

In my experience here, if you haven't had Central BBQ then you haven't had Memphis BBQ.

Also, go downtown for the game - plenty of great places on Main St. if you want to get an actual feel for the city (there is a Central BBQ downtown as well - but don't recommend that for the game.

I don't know a whole lot about Sports Bars in that area but Fox and the Hound or Dan McGuinness should both be close. Although, if I was visiting - that's not where I'd suggest going at all.

I like watching games at Aldo's Pizza on Main Street. If you want to stay in East Memphis, Huey's is a good recommendation.

Central is good barbecue, I'd recommend the location on Central Avenue near Hollywood Street. The downtown spot is good too but in a slightly funky location; the one on Summer Avenue is for locals only. (No tourist would want to head down Summer Avenue. It's not unsafe, just unsightly.)

Thanks for all the replies, but as luck would have it, the soccer tournament my son was going to play in was cancelled due to the ice storm you are apparently having, so no Memphis trip.

I'm sure we'll be back soon. You have a great city to visit.

I agree with this.

The original Corky's BBQ on Poplar is very close to 240/Poplar and most of the hotels will have shuttles that may drop you off there. That's pretty good BBQ when they are firing on all cylinders.

That original Corky's location is the first restaurant I'd ever tried in Memphis. Good atmosphere and soundtrack, and plenty of TVs for sports games.
