First let me say I am not going to become a Memphis Tigers basketball fan because I am too much of a Mississippi State fan. Although I will root for Memphis as long as they are not playing an sec team. Anyways can anybody tell me what the academic quality is like at the University of Memphis. I was going to attend another school for a second master’s degree in history but I learned the university of Memphis offers one. So duh no brainer to attend the university in the city I live in. What’s the school like?

In grad school, it depends so much on your academic department. I don't know anything about the history dep't, so can't tell you much there. I'm graduating in May with a MURP from the school of urban affairs and public policy. SUAPP is a great school, academically fairly rigorous with a large quantity of internship/work experience opportunities.

I'm a PhD student in the history department, and the social chair (so I'm in charge of talking to new students if they need help). PM me!

I love the department - depends on what your focus is who you'll be working with and how good they are, but no one is bad.

Also, none of us really root for Memphis over our home teams (I'm an Arkansas fan) but the games are fun to go to.
