Publix does not have any in the Memphis area... The closest Publix stores to Memphis would be in the Nashville/Davidson County metro area. Other one is Chattanooga.

It was 22 degrees when I woke up this morning. It won't stay this cold for too long though.
I think the singles scene for younger people is good, but for older people - not sure. Memphis seems family and church oriented town when it comes to older folks (I have no clue of your age of course). Midtown or Downtown might be a good area for you; lot of single people, lots to do, and isn't SUCH a family-oriented area like Germantown or Cordova.

Back when it was Seessel's (before being bought by Albertson's) I would've agreed with you. Schnucks is definitely better than Albertson's, however.

Single scene is great I think! I am 24 and can say that for anyone that doesn't think it is I will take you around for a week. Blue Monkey, Gill's and my personal fav is SILKY'S on a Saturday night. See I think in Memphis you get the best of both world's. I have met girls at church, through fraternity events, downtown, out at the bars, etc. What I am saying if you want a nice girl its really not that hard and if you want fun for a few months you can have that too. One bad thing about Memphis is that it is the smallest big city you will ever go to. Meaning everyone knows each other...so you could end up with one of your boys old girlfriends.

Default Publix 'needed' in Germantown/Memphis

I am offended that the only true Supermarket left to shop is Kroger!
I enjoy and very much like Fresh Market, but not for everyday shopping
needs. When I lived in Florida for a few years, Publix was a breath of
fresh air for shopping. It was always sparkling clean, bakery was excellent,
fresh produce was beautiful and plentiful,... . PUBLIX, WE NEED YOU!!!

While searching on line for the great supermarket I visited in Northern Va., south of D.C. (Wegman's) which had seven different hot buffets of various kinds and everything else imaginable, I ran across a list of the top five in the Washington area and guess what, #1 was Whole Foods, and we actually have one! Now while it has argueably the highest quality produce, seafood, bread, etc. in Memphis, it isn't the gigantic size of Wegman's or I suppose Publix. Regardless, we do have high quality (and high dollar) choices.

There's been some speculation that a Publix or Trader Joes is going to move into the spot where the old MPD sub-station is on Union Ave. The police are moving into a different location and putting the property up for sale. The real estate developer who is redelevoping Overton Square said a high-end grocer is interested in that property, but wouldn't say who. It rules out Kroger since they moved into the old Schnucks building down the street.

When did all this happen? When I lived in Central Gardens I used to love shopping at the Seessel's/Schnucks there on Union. When did Schnucks close it down? That old Seessel's was one of the things I loved about living in Central Gardens. This was also when Wild Oats had that little store on Union, too. It was a great time to be living in Central Gardens.

I seriously doubt Publix will be opening in Memphis anytime soon. It's way too far from the nearest Publix distribution center (Atlanta). But I can definitely see a Trader Joe's in Midtown Memphis. That would be awesome!
