My roommate and I are moving to the city hopefully in mid-June (depending when we find a place). We really want to live in the downtown/Mud Island area, but we're open to Midtown also. I just don't know enough about Midtown to pick a good place to live! We would LOVE to find a condo, however our budget is $1200 max for a 2 bedroom (without utilities) or about $1400 if utilities are included. We have looked at Riverset on the island, it is not my favorite however it is the cheapest so I can deal with it. If anyone could help me out, that would be great. I've looked at pretty much every apartment complex on the island, but if you have suggestions for downtown/midtown or even condos - that would be perfect. We are 2 young females so safety is a priority!!!

$1200 for a 2 bed downtown is rather low, but here are some options below that come close to that. I would be hesitant to recommend anything in midtown to two young females who are from out of town, want safety, and don't know anything about Memphis. Midtown has a lot of crime all over, and it varies from street to street. There are two apartment buildings in midtown that come to mind, places that would be locked/gated and probably safer - The Gilmore and Kimbrough. Not sure if their prices align with yours though.

Not recommending Midtown to "two females" is a bit over the top. Midtown is safe and more in line with your budget. If you prefer and can find something downtown, go for it, but don't be afraid of Midtown. The best way to find a good place to live in Midtown? Pick the nearest intersection and ask us here on the message board for opinions!
