Husband and I are taking a mini honeymoon/1st anniversary trip during Christmas. We originally planned on going to Gatlinburg, but with the recent fires we made the decision not to go this year. So devastating. :/ So with that being said we are looking for a City where we can be adventurous! We love the outdoors, but we also want to be able to go out to dinner and bars.

So bloggers, where is your fav city within 6 hours from Memphis where you can be adventurous, but also has nice restaurants?!

PLEASE HELP!!!

New Orleans. I recommend you check the Garden District BnB. Good location, nice rooms, and decent rates. The owner can recommend all types of restaurants. Lots to see and do. It is a great town for restaurants.

For a honeymoon, New Orleans is the only real choice. Gatlinburg is more of a family with kids destination anyway.

Downtown Knoxville has plenty of bars and restaurants (some very good ones). You can visit the townsend side of the smokies which wasn't affected by the fires. If you like recreational shopping plan a day in Gatlinburg/pigeon forge. They really need your support right now and the businesses are still standing.

Another alternative for future years is Chattanooga. They have lots of touristic things to do.

St Louis

There are state parks and conservation areas nearby to satisfy your outdoor inclinations.

St Louis has a ton to do, although I'm not sure if you'd want to be outdoors there this time of year. NOLA is comes to mind that has a ton to do, both food/drink wise and outdoors wise this time of year. It's usually not unbearably cold there now. Maybe Dallas? That might be slightly over 6 hours. Atlanta?

If Gatlinburg was on your radar, then Eureka Springs, Arkansas may be a good substitute. It is Gatlinburgish to a smaller degree.

I would also recommend Saint Louis. Tons of culture and restaraunts. If you are looking for something really different try Hidden Valley resort. There are also some nice places in northwest Arkansas.
