I've always considered I-240 and SR 385 to be the dividing line that separates East Memphis from Southeast Memphis

I don't think of Southeast Memphis as a specific neighborhood. I would just say Hickory Hill or Parkway Village or Southwind as needed. As you point out, 240 and 385 are major neighborhood boundaries.

Is Oakhaven also considered Southeast Memphis or South Central Memphis?

Memphis doesn't have official neighborhoods, so, this is just my opinion as a longterm resident. There is no such thing as Southeast Memphis and certainly not South Central. Oakhaven is just Oakhaven. Or maybe just "by the airport." Honestly, I can't think of ever having to refer to Oakhaven. Unless you live or work over there, it's not the sort of place most people have any interest in. No shopping or attractions, etc.

I have seen some real estate listings, particularly rentals, advertised as "Southeast Memphis," usually folks who're trying to rent out a house in Hickory Hill but don't want to call it that.

I agree with EMguy. East Memphis is East Memphis. Other places are called by their neighborhood, e.g. Southwind or Hickory Hill.

The one that always confused me was North Memphis. Seems like some folks use it to mean Berclair/Nutbush, others Hollywood, others Klondike/Smokey City.

Berclair is NOT North Memphis. North Memphis is much further west. North Memphis is north of Downtown/Midtown and south of Frayser. I've very persnickity about my neighborhood designations.

I'm with you, just sayin'. I'm okay with Hollywood being North Memphis though so maybe I am a bit more lax than you. 8)

Hacks Cross is barely in the city. I live off of Hacks Cross in Southwind and cannot imagine Hacks Cross being the boundary for anything.

I think the other posters are on the right track, 385 and 240 are the major boundaries. There is a noticeable difference when you go under 385 on Winchester west bound, as well as going south on Mt. Moriah and Perkins over 240.
