I am graduating from school soon and accepted a job at Farm Credit in Somerville. My fiance is looking at human resources positions at fed ex HQ. First off is the HQ in collierville, or the one west of G'town? Also, we have been looking for places to rent and have read all the posts on here about the safest places to go, but was wanting some opinions on staying in germantown or collierville, or heading out more towards Oakland. I know it will be somewhat of a commute for one of us, but its what we have to do. I will be traveling to Louisville quite a bit during my training, sometimes up to a week and I am very nervous to leave her alone anywhere near Memphis. Just looking for some input on the areas to look at. Thanks

Collierville is the wealthiest suburb of Memphis, does not compare to Oakland - Oakland is very rural still.

I lived in Memphis for 10 years, but that's been awhile. Until recently lived about an hour away. It was our place to "shop" and "play." There are still good areas that are way out in East Memphis and in midtown. However, given what you are saying about jobs, etc., I would recommend Collierville without doubt. Oakland is still rural, and Collierville wouldn't be too far a drive from Somerville.

It's possible that his position with hr at FedEx may be at the Germantown location, as the facility in Collierville is known as the tech center. I'm not 100% sure though.

My soon to be wife will be the one working at Fed ex. Oakland is more rural, but would it be safer than collierville? I am just very uneasy about leaving her alone down there.
Thanks

Oakland certainly is more rural. Collierville has more "conveniences." Collierville's police department does have national accredidation. You can look up neighborhood crime statistics in the area by visiting the local police department websites and the Shelby County Sheriff's Department online:

Collierville is safer than Oakland because there is far more police protection, and the demographics are better. It doesn't get much safer than Collierville anywhere.

Also, I imagine if he gets an interview for a specific job, they will tell you which office it will be in. I have a couple friends at Fed Ex who actually work in small off-shoot buildings, so you never know.
