I just don't know how to deal with this and was hoping someone might be able to help. I live in Nashville but was trying to visit a friend that had knee replacement, I was following my GPS to find her a card sand Starbucks. I turned off 70 onto Brunswick and saw the speed limit sign, looked at my speed and let off the gas to apply the brake. At this moment a cop on a motorcycle and I both came over a little hump in the road going opposite directions. He put his lights on and looked as though he was about to cut in front of me and really startled me. I pulled right over, he could see my navigation was up but gave me a ticket anyway. He said I was going 14 mph over the speed limit and I know for a fact that I was doing 42 (I literally just looked) which was only 7 mph over! I haven't had a ticket in more than 10 years! He saw that I was from out of town and acted like he just didn't care at all. I was devastated, a ticket for $134 and 3 points against me! I honestly do not feel that I deserve that and need to decide if I should just pay it or go to court..... On top of it all I had just lost my job.... Does anyone have advise? I would hate to go to court only to end up paying even more. My friend knew exactly where it was and told me that section of Brunswick is known as a speed trap.

I appreciate any advise

You may want to just pay the ticket. From what I hear, they don't really drop tickets or court cost.

I'm not crazy about the Bartlett police force. I had one lie on me, and say that I didn't have my seat belt on when pulling me over for a window tint infraction. I just held firm and told him that I didn't take my seat belt of until I pulled over and was in the process of retrieving my wallet. I got of with a warning. I have other instances with them but that's for another thread.

They need revenue. The schools don't pay for themselves!

You couldn't have gotten a ticket in a worse location. Bartlett cops are notorious at being hardasses

I would just pay it. What is the other option, you have to drive back to Memphis to sit in court all day? I mean....let's be honest...you admit you were speeding, the argument is about how much you were speeding. So in my eyes, if you know you were 'breaking the law' (and I realize this is so minor) then you might as well just pay it. What would your defense in court be? You know you were speeding, but you think you deserve a break because you're from out of town? Not trying to be rude, but just saying...unless you lie in court and say you were going under the limit, then you have to admit you deserved the ticket.

Default Speeding yes

I appreciate your reply however the difference between 49 and 42 are the points. I am going to pay the ticket however I feel that these guys are extremely unfair and act as if they are gods.

Thank you for your advise, I will pay the ticket and just hope my insurance does not increase. I really didn't appreciate the attitude this guy had and will never drive through Bartlett again when there.

Sorry you had to go through that. It's a waste of time going to court because Bartlett will never drop tickets. They don't take kindly to speeding up there.
