We're pretty new to the areas, and we've got some visitors coming to Memphis for the first time for Mother's day, and we're looking for recommendations, a place for Breakfast or Brunch that's a bit off the beaten path, that will give us a nice taste of the Memphis area (no BBQ, as we have a couple of vegetarians with us).

Also, can you recommend where we can find a good Memphis tour for Seniors and kids?

Thanks in advance!
Marti

Don't know about 'off the beaten path' but I did notice in the latest Memphis Flyer that several downtown restaurants were advertising special Mother's Day menus. The Peabody will have their regular brunch, and I think they do something special for Mother's Day. Grill 83, and Majestic Grille also had special menus I think. They do one at the UM Holiday Inn as well.

Thanks Pearlbob...

Yea, the Peabody one is $59 per person...I just won't pay that. We're going to see the ducks, but I'd much rather spend that money elsewhere.

It may be $60, but I think it's worth it Personally. It's a ton of food, and it's a nice atmosphere. If you can chow down a lot and love to eat, it might be worth it. I imagine the Grill 83 brunch is around $45 as well.

Are you looking for any certain type of food?

We wanted something much more casual, grits and eggs. It's all about the authentic Memphis atmosphere. We love going out to nice places, but we don't want to go when and where everyone else is...like Mother's day brunch. Too cliche.

this is going to be our Memphis day, and we want to dress in jeans and explore.

Hmmm....given that it's a Sunday, a lot of more casual places like that might not be open. Then again, it is Mother's Day. Are you going to be downtown? Anything on Beale St will be "memphis" type of food, but that basically means bar/pub food. Memphis is big on meat too, so a lot of "memphis" type restaurants might not have vegetarian options other than a basic salad.

Maybe Miss Polly's Soul Food on Beale?

Arcade Restaurant! On Main and G.E. Patterson. They have a breakfast menu all day I believe. Its laid back and will give you that "Memphis" experience. I believe a movie or too has captured the Arcade. Hope you find something but I think the Arcade will do the trick. Plus you guys can leave there and hop on the trolley. Good deal!

Is the Arcade open on Sundays? I know it closes around 2 or 3, keep that in mind. It's one of those places that don't really have "set" hours. But it's a good suggestion!!

^^ yes it is open on Sundays for sure. As far as the hours the OP might want to call in advance to make sure they are open.
