I grew up in the north and rarely ever find it to feel very cold here, I'm usually in shirtsleeves until sometime in December. I also find fall to feel rather subdued, more of a gentle transition from summer into winter than it is a season in its own right ...but then that might be just a D*** Yankee viewpoint. I will agree that spring is glorious. I love to hit the botanic garden and check out daffodil hill and the wildflower garden, followed by a walk to see all the magnolias in bloom! Just beautiful!

I've been here all of my life and I'm likely to be wearing a sweatshirt and a pair of shorts in the coolest days of January. Granted, I'd likely be perfectly happy living in an igloo.

It doesn't really get cold here, but what really gets to me is the long periods of grey skies and clammy feeling from the humdity. If you have seasonal affictive disorder it really gets to you. Not many evergreens here either, so you just look at dead looking trees, and brown grass. It's depressing.

If we do have ANY mention of snow here, the schools will close in "preparation" (even if it's 70 degrees and sunny) and it will be a "two loaf emergency" in the bread aisle at the grocery stores! Hot chocolate will sell out, and everyone will go into full survival mode. It's actually very exciting, very rare, and lots of fun when snow is mentioned in the forecast... you'll get a kick out of it.

Beware of the infamous "sneaky Winter" in Memphis, though! We sometimes have one random Winter snow in March or April. The daffodils will be blooming, and then BAM- the crazy snow comes! This happened last year in March and it was pretty great- and it was also melted by 9am the next morning.

We had a good snow in March of this year which stuck around through the night. This was taken from my apartment the next morning. It was almost all melted by about noon, but it was fun while it lasted!
