Emissions testing on Classic cars? (Memphis: inspection, safety, moving to)

Hey all,
I'm moving to Memphis (harbortown/mud island) in a couple of weeks and have a question about the emissions testing. I'm not worried about our newer cars, but I have a 67 Camaro & 56 Studebaker truck that I'll be bringing down with me. I'm curious if Memphis' emissions standards grandfather classic cars in. I can just about guarantee that there is no way either would pass current emissions testing. Any help/insight on this would be great.

You might need to call and make sure what the laws are. I am thinking that if the car is a registered classic car, it does not need to go thru emissions because part of registering it as "classic" is that you are not going to be driving it over a certain milage per year (therefore, it would be producing a ton of emissions). But again....you should call the city and make sure.

Hey, Welcome to Memphis, Any car 25 years or older can be registered as an ANTIQUE, and I believe they then are exempt from City Inspection. But since pre 68 there were almost no EPA and DOT laws, you should not have any problem getting ither one thru inspection, as long as they are not visibly smoking, and all safety items work, i.e., brakes, emergency brake, lights, wipers, etc. if you want to run them on a normal tag.

I just looked at their website. I stand corrected - ALL cars have to be inspected, no matter what year. the inspection on a classic car may be less throrough, as mentioned, but it seems like you still have to have it inspected no matter what.
