Can anyone tell me about a neighborhood in East Memphis between Shelby Drive and Winchester and Riverdale Road? The street address for the house we are looking at is
4344 Crescent Park Dr
Memphis, TN 38141

Thanks for your input. We are moving to Memphis from Phoenix and looking for rental home.

2. My husband will be working at Northridge Industrial Park in Frayser. According to Google, the commute is about 30 mins. Is this accurate? How bad is traffic? We are used to a lot of standstill time with our commutes.

Southeast Memphis, Hickory Hill area, not recommended. Your best bets for a rental that will be safe and still convenient would probably be in Millington, Bartlett, or Ellendale areas.
If you don't mind being in the city itself and want to be in east Memphis, there seem to be a lot of rentals in the neighborhoods along Summer Ave, between Perkins and White Station (from what I have seen on my drives to work in the morning), and they would have easy access to the interstate.

I also think a 30 minute commute time for that drive is a bit optimistic. Maybe on a really good day, but not on a regular basis...

calyaz, or anyone else interested for that matter,
On my way home from work today I wrote down some phone numbers of rental houses, in east Memphis, that had signs in the yards. The houses are in the area roughly surrounded by White Station Rd to the east (easy access to I-240), Rich Rd to the south, Perkins to the west (easy access to I-40), and Sequoia or Princeton to the north. DM me if you are interested and I will send you the numbers.
I do not have any clue what the rents might be in this area so you are on your own there. Maybe some one else would have an idea about that?

I'm moving to Memphis from Phoenix as well! Ive been researching and from what i have been told anything south of Quince road is not a good idea. I've been looking for apartments instead of rental houses in the vicinity of Park ave near I-240. I'm also looking at a place near S. Germantown Rd and Winchester, But i'm not sure if that is considered Hickory Hill or not. I wish i had a map of the borders of the different neighborhoods of memphis, it would make fining a place to live a lot easier!
Good luck!

If you think Quince is a bad area, you don't want to live anywhere near Winchester. That's worse. HH is spreading out into the Winchester/Gtown area. Lots of new crime there lately.

Post Be careful........

even around the Park/I-240 area even for apartments. Make sure that you have double locks and that the back patio doors have a secured locking system or bar so that they cannot be easily opened. That is how someone broke into our place. You can find extra security locks through some of the mail order catalogs (Brookstone?) or online.
East Memphis has changed so much in the past few years. Places that I never thought were that sketchy have had some "events" happen in even the "nice" neighborhoods........Any particular questions, feel free to ask.....I believe there is also a website where one can look up recent stats/crimes/break-ins by zip code. Anyone else know particulars?

I believe the newspaper has a crime tracker, the news station websites (like WMC tv) and the police dept's website has one for sure. However, take it with a grain of salt. Things look bad when they pop up, but you have to keep in mind (at least downtown and in midtown and parts of everywhere ) that anytime the police are called out to a place, they file a report. So if a homeless person is arrested for stealing a donut from another homeless person, that shows up on the crime tracker. There should be a way to choose which crimes you want to see, such as murders, assaults, etc.
