Hi everybody! What is the cost of living in Germantown or Collierville, TN? I've applied to this company in Cordova, TN and the base pay is $12-13 per hour. I want to know will I be able to make a living off of that or look elsewhere.

Houses in those cities are going to be, on average, much higher than in other areas of town. However "cost of living" for the entire area is the same. Gas prices are lower in the suburbs, restaurants are the same, things like that. Memphis is pretty small, so there is little to no diff on things within the city or in the suburbs. Property taxes are higher in Memphis, so if you buy a house in the burbs, you will save on that. But again, home prices are overall higher in the burbs due to various reasons.

However, $12 an hour is less than $25,000 a year, which is very low anywhere. In terms of buying a home. So, maybe you mean renting an apt? Apts in those areas will be about $1000 a month, and there are not many out there. Making less than $2000a month, I don't think you'd qualify for something that expensive. Usually the rent cannot be more than 1/3 of your monthly income.

There are few apts there, especially compared to Cordova, which is where your other post mentioned that you are considering. You will pay a lot more in Gtown or Cville, with a lot fewer options. Cordova definitely has a younger vibe, where as Gtown and Cville are more family-oriented, quiet upscale suburbs.
