Hi all-

moving to Memphis in the very near future, Germantown area from what it looks like and would like to find a reputable place to board my horse. I have no idea what the going rate is in that area to keep a horse.

Also, I would like to know where I could meet some local horse owners (recommended tack shops, etc.) and what some of the local well known horse events might be.

Any help is appreciated....

Thanks.

The horse community in this area is varied.

What kind of horse or riding are you interested in?

Are you interested in a big barn environment or small?

You will find hunter-jumper types, quarter horse, barrel racing, arab, walking horse, pony clubbers, and various gaited type horses. The various groups do not have much interaction.

Thanks for your reply - actually, I ride English and compete in Dressage and Hunter/Jumper type events now. Looking for a barn that has a nice indoor arena to allow me to ride yearround and offers full board as I will be travelling some with this new job I was offered. Small barn vs. big barn is really not that important, although I would prefer small but ultimately, the care my horse receives is most important as I would have to be able to rely on the staff to take care of my horse when I'm out of town.

Again, any information regarding the horse community, local events or public places to ride, etc. will be appreciated. If anyone can recommend a place to board that would be very helpful as I stated earlier.........

I'll ask around about a hunter-jumper/dressage barn.

Oh yeah...my sister has a barn with a nice indoor arena near Henderson tn. She has one outside horse there now and there is a dressage trainer there often too, but it is a bit too far from Memphis.

Actually, this is probably too late for you, but I ride at a fantastic barn, and my trainer does dressage. Her name is Jennifer Simmons and the barn is Wilmar Farms. They take fantastic care of their boarders, and their riding arena is top notch. Barn is on the small side, very friendly boarders.
