I was also wondering about Memphis area/Shelby County teaching vacancies. Are there many vacancies for Memphis City Schools, Shelby County Schools, the catholic schools or the other private schools? I was just wondering of there are many, some, or none available in the area for next school year. Thanks for any help you can give.

I cannot imagine there would be a lack of vacancies, especially in the Memphis City Schools. I'm sure they are dying for some good teachers there. Check their website, they list all vacancies.

There is some concern over the budget for the Memphis City Schools, as the City Council is withholding funds it formerly gave to city schools. At the beginning of last school year, the Supt. warned that there would be 200 layoffs and many teachers were very worried about keeping their jobs. Some thought it was just a scare tactic, and in reality only a few people lost their teaching jobs, as unfilled positions were eliminated.

Math, ESL, chemistry and Spanish are areas in which MCS is in dire need of teachers. They're trying to fill some of those positions via teaching fellowships.

As Pearlbob said, check the web site of MCS: Shelby County Schools Employment Opportunities

Here's the site for Shelby County Schools: Shelby County Schools Employment Opportunities.

Also check just south of Memphis in Desoto County, Mississippi (sorry, couldn't find a link).

You might have to search the private schools individually.

Good luck.
