Hello all,

My wife and I just moved to the area and we were wondering if there were any open gyms for adult volleyball and/or basketball in the area?

thanks!

What do you mean by "open gyms"? Like somewhere that you do not have to pay a membership fee, but can still use the facilities? Many churches have things like this, although I'm sure they will want you to join their church Otherwise, I know some gyms have volleyball and bball teams/tourneys that come thru, leagues. But I imagine people pay to be in the league, it's not simply free for fun.

I do not think that there are open gyms in Shelby County at all.

But, I know that Bartlett and Germantown have nice rec centers and there is always the YMCA.

Germantown Baptist church on Poplar has both. You have to be a member, which costs $5 a year. That's not a typo. $5 a year.

Sometimes local schools or park and recs open their facility for 2-3 hours for volleyball/basketball. You pay ~$5 and everyone there is looking to play, unlike a Y where your never sure if anyone else wants to play. We are already in a league, but just want to play a couple times more a week to get some practice and fitness in

thanks everyone!

is that membership to the church or something like a "gym membership" to their facilities?

It's a gym membership to their facilites. It's a church outreach, so you'll get a lot of 'have a blessed day', but no evangelizing. Nice folks, and a great facility. I have not yet played volleyball, as I'm recovering from shoulder surgery, but hope to join in soon!
