I've found so much of the information here useful and appreciate it. I'm hoping, though, to find an answer to a question I haven't found answered elsewhere (though I might have missed it!)

I'm moving to Tennessee (Memphis) from Texas later this summer (July) and had been already planning to buy a new car this summer. Now I'm wondering if I should wait until I get to Tennessee to buy. I'm worried I might have to pay the sales tax twice (in both Texas and Tennessee). Is this right? Or would I only have to pay Tennessee the difference (since TN sales tax is higher than TX)? I'd rather buy here in TX where I know the dealers, as well as generally preferring to make the drive in a new car. But I'd rather not pay the taxes twice! Any advice or information would be much appreciated.

I'm confused; why would you pay sales tax twice? You pay the sales tax when you buy the car. It's not continual. ??

Or do you mean the registration, as in to register your car in TX and then again in TN? Yes, you'd have to pay for that twice if you buy the car in TX and then have to register it here a month later. Registration in the city of Memphis is pretty high too.

You will have to pay the difference when you get here.

Buy a Hybrid car in TN. The sales tax on a Hybrid is 3.5% until the year 2017. According to www.hybridcars/local-incentives
