My husband and I had plans of visiting Memphis for the weekend of the 30th but I'm having a hard time finding out if any of the area's in or near Memphis were effected by all the rain the midwest as gotten.
I live in MO and I know all over MO we have many badly flooded spots. How is Memphis?

Memphis is 254 feet above sea level. We could flood, it's just that much of North America would have to be underwater as well.

Compare that to New Orleans Elevation: 11 feet

Memphis' elevation has nothing to do with their tendency to flood. It's rivers and creeks that do the damage, not sea level. Missouri sits at a higher elevation than Memphis, and darn near half the state is under water.

To answer the question, the MS river is right at flood level right now, I believe. Memphis is in a good spot though, because it sits on a substantial bluff that protects it from rising Miss River waters. Memphis will be fine because of that.

Drive across the river though, and you'll see substantial flooding, as there is no bluff to protect it from rising water.

Default From a Mud-Islander

I live on Mud Island (the area is nothing like what it sounds) and this is an area that borders the Mississippi River. Sure, the trees along the trail are under water now, but this happens every year. I can still run along the trail without worry. It's still pretty out here, and I would come visit before the weather gets too hot...the Mississippi River can really stink.

"Memphis' elevation has nothing to do with their tendency to flood."

You're absolutely correct. I've been in flooding in Aspen, CO where the roads have been closed. Last I checked, Aspen is about 8000 feet.

Millington is dealing w/flooding right now, but as far as I know the rest of the city is doing just fine. I live downtown and drove all over Cordova, Germantown, and East Memphis yesterday and today and saw nothing to be concerned about.

East of Memphis proper is flooded. But any flooding in the city is from drainage backup...you should have no problem getting into the city, but you can check with Tennessee's and Arkansas' DOTs.
