My son has high functioning autism. (kind of like Asperger's) and I need to find an excellent pediatrician or developmental pediatrician for him. Any suggestions? We're in Oakland. Bartlett, Arlington, Cordova, East Memphis area's would be ideal. Thanks!

I don't know of a pediatrician that specializes in autism, but I can recommend the pediatrician that took care of all my kids.

Dr Pender at Pediatric Associates on Covington Pike in Raleigh.
A genuinely kind and caring "old school" type doctor.
He is available by phone and has called himself to check up when he was worried about one of them.
If my child is sick and I call early in the morning they will see the child usually before lunch.
My youngest is now 21 and all three of my kids love Dr Pender.
They have seen him from newborn baby through college.

Actually I cannot say enough good things about Dr Pender.

Check with Autism Solution Center in Cordova. I bet they could recommend someone.

BTW, as a parent with two autistic kids, I say "God bless you and yours!" I can't recommend a doctor there, since I no longer live in Memphis.

Dr. Goldin is our awesome psychiatrist. I've done a lot of research. I've found great drs, and LCSW, a day camp, etc. etc. etc. It's still not "home" but these are people who care.

There are many excellent Pediatricians like Dr Pender. Check your insurance. Dr. Pendergrass/Frizzle, Yanashevski/Hansen. UT has multiple good developmentalist. Dr McVickor is a neurologist. Dr. Knowles in Gtown. Lastly I do see Aspergers/high functioning ASD. I'm Dr. Eastmead @ MemphisNeurology.com. Check out the handouts on ASD with other local resources.

Thanks, my daughter has autism. We need a psychologist. Hers moved. He was great. If anyone has a number for Dr. Gary (Jerry?) Osborne, please post it! We've tried 2 others, but I don't really care for either of them. We prefer Jackson to Memphis, but anywhere is worth the drive if he/she works.
