You are misinterpreting the information. Not everyone with swine flu is tested and reported.

From the wiki article you reference: 115,318 confirmed, reported cases and 3433 confirmed deaths.

Click on United States in the chart where you found the reported cases and it takes you to a page with more info for USA. 2009 flu pandemic in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There were an estimated 59 million cases and 12000 deaths overall.

So, yes, the director was correct when he said "many millions" had swine flu. He did not lie. Note that patients with fatal disease are more likely to have been tested because they were sicker and hospitalized. People who are not sick enough to see a doctor will not be tested, obviously.

I hgihly doubt the case is finally decided which is why we have appeals to civil verdicts.

No I'm not misreading anything. The CDC is purely speculating some random number. If I tell you I have 59 million dollars but in reality I only have 115,318 dollars in the bank account, how much money do I really have?

First of all that estimate was four months after he claimed millions of Americans were infected. Second of all, the CDC stopped counting individual cases at some point and just lumped everyone going into the hospital with any flu like symptoms as H1N1. Lastly, the total of state verified cases is a whopping 115,318. The details regarding where the CDC comes up with the magical number of 59,000,000 is extremely hazy. They literally added another 58.9 million cases simply because they felt like it.

Just because you do not understand the statistical methods used does not mean it cannot be done. The methods used are in the same webste from which you get the 115, 318 number. The calculations described are complex, but not "hazy". CDC Novel H1N1 Flu | 2009 H1N1-Related Deaths, Hospitalizations and Cases: Details of Extrapolations and Ranges: United States, Emerging Infections Program (EIP) Data

To test everyone with flu symptoms for H1N1 would be extremely expensive and unnecessary. Just because not everyone with the disease was formally tested and reported does not mean the cases were not there. There is no "random speculation" and they did not "literally add another 58.9 million cases because they felt like it."

As far as the estimate being 4 months after the director's comment, you can go back and see the earlier estimates. Still "many millions."

Yes, these are esimates, not precise counts, and if you bother to read it all, ranges of estimates are given, with some estimates lower and some even higher. The article in the link above even admits that there is no way to know exactly how accurate the estimates are. That is the nature of an estimate --- if we knew the exact number, it would not be necessary to estimate.

The point the director was aking was that a lot of people got sick. Just based on what happened in my community, I can easily see "many milions" across the country.

Yeah and I have 59,000,000 in my bank account based on the fact that I haven't checked my balance in a few weeks. The CDC is full of ****.

A court settlement is a company's way of saying:

"oh hai u r a pita. u can haz $ to s T f U nau. kthxbai lololol"

It doesn't mean either side was right, and it doesn't mean either side was wrong.

it's called scare-mongering, something the CDC is really good at.
