Just because you take anti-psychotics for sleeping, doesn't mean you are qualified to recommend it to anyone as as sleep aid. For all anyone here knows, you -are- psychotic, and your psychiatrist gives you this medication to treat your psychosis, and since it does have a sedative effect, you assume it's for your sleeping problem.

You are an anonymous entity here on this forum. So am I. The manufacturer's patient information, however, is not. And that is what I would refer to if I am looking for sleep medicine. Not some anecdotal "I take this, therefore it must be for the reasons I claim it's for" story on the internet.
Again, you are NOT a Dr. I see a Dr. Take this and realize it. You can talk all you want. In the final analysis, it's just your opinion, as YOU ARE NOT A DR! Now, I am growing weary of your Internet research compared with those who have done the deal and are REAL Drs.

Klonopin MAY be used for patients with epilepsy (I wouldn't know as I don't have epilepsy nor have I ever seen a Dr. for that) but it is prescribed for anxiety disorder AND sleep, sleep in some cases. As I told you initally, Klonopin is a benzo. TWO Drs (both speciolists and high priced) have given it to me for sleep. I think I know what I am being prescribed. And I think given the fact this is the 4th shrink I have seen in this city (one of whom I saw for six years and not that it's any of your business), they just might know a bit more about these drugs than you and what they can and cannot be used for, both on label and off. And I have learned quite a bit in my travels as well. And I hardly doubt that four Drs are prescribing me drugs illegally.
You are right mistygrl092 !! I have been taking Klonopin and Zonegran for 10 years for biopolar disorder AND mainly for SLEEP. Two psychiatrists have prescribed these medications as an add-on because I have a sleeping disorder associated with the biopolar. I have had this problem for 20 years before I found the Klonopin and Zonegran to be the ONLY medications that could help me sleep. I take Lamictal also. So, you are right, mistygrl092, because the psychiatrists would never have prescribed them, unless they thought they would work. And they did! Thank you God! Because of these drugs, I've been sleeping for 10 years!!!

The post you are getting so upset about is over THREE YEARS old. Apparently the original poster found the help she needed and is sleeping.

You aren't being treated for sleep problems. You're being treated *appropriately* for bipolar disorder. One of the symptoms of bipolar disorder is sleeplessness. When your treatment for bipolar disorder is appropriately addressed, that symptom goes away.

Your meds aren't being prescribed to treat sleeplessness. They're being prescribed to treat bipolar disorder. I'm glad they're working! But if you did -not- have bipolar disorder, you would not likely be prescribed those particular meds, because there are more appropriate meds for treating sleep disorders that are not related to bipolar disorder.

Again, one doesn't need to be a doctor OR a patient, to know how to read patient information documentation. I'm not reading someone's opinion, and I'm not giving my own opinion. I'm restating the facts as they appear from the manufacturer's and the government's data sheets on the drug in question.

I have generalized anxiety disorder, hence the Klonopin and other conditions which I won't go into here. Sigh. I am far too familiar with all these meds. Two Drs have now prescribed me Klonopin at bedtime in conjuction with Ambien for sleep.

Just wondering if anyone has tried seroquel for sleep and what your experience was.
Yes, Klonopin is a benzo and a very potent one also. It's also an anti-seizure. All benzo's have anti-seizure effects more or less. I'm really concerned about the new anti-benzo trend. Some doc can put an otherwise healthy working person with a little bit of insomnia on Seroquel (which is an atypical anti-psychotic developed to the treatment of schizophrenia) instead of a mild dose of Ambien.

These are heavy duty drugs. Last night I took the Seroquel and still woke up at 2:30 (as I do each nigh). Made some coffee as my alarm clock was broken (was supposed to be somewhere at 9) and decided to go to Walmart and buy an alarm clock. As I was driving I went southbound in a northbound lane and had to correct and nearly went over the median. Sigh. I guess I won't be doing that again.

Anyway, don't know what to do anymore. Ambien and Klonopin won't keep me to sleep for more than a few hours. Seroquel is supposed to really knock someone out. Anyone had experience with Seroquel or Zonegran for insomnia?
Seroquel? A few years back i was suffering from insomnia due to a tight work schedule and this young, bright eyed female fresh out of the academy GP refused to write any benzo based sleeping pills, not even Ambien. But she told me: We have this new med called Seroquel all my patients use it...and you should too. So i'm going to prescribe you this new med which gives you a slight euphoria and lulls you to sleep nicely. Take 3x25 mg in the evening. I did as i was told. No sleep that night. Instead a full blown Restless Leg Syndrome and a constant craving for chocolate. Never again.
