It would pretty much explain my problems and my life. I'm 17 and ever since I was a child I've been kind of a odd child. I tend to not be talkative and I'm bad at small talk. I also rarely smile in public and find it hard to make friends. I've tryed to fit in and be talkative and people have always asked me why I don't talk. I usually just say I'm not talkative, but I can never think of something to say to someone. I also find if hard to make eye contact I'm not mentally challenged either, like some with Autism, because I go to a college preperatory high school and I do pretty good.
I've researched Autism but there's supposed to be MANY different symptoms, and then those symptoms vary from person to person. So how can I tell if I'm Autistic? I don't really find my situation 'bad'; I just think it would be good to know that it's all because of Autism or something else.

Thank you.
It sounds kind of like social anxiety disorder, which is more common and much more curable. Are you shy or anxious in those situations? I probably have social anxiety, and it sounds somewhat similar to what you are describing.
You could just simply be introverted and socially inept. If that was the case, you'd need to learn -how- to be more sociable if it's something you desire, but it would also mean there's nothing "wrong" with you that needs to be treated or fixed.
Or, you could have some kind of social disorder, or some mild variety of some kind of autism. The only way to know for sure is to find a licensed physician who is qualified to diagnose mental illnesses, and ask for a consultation. Even if it turns out you do have "something," it doesn't mean you need to be "fixed." Plenty of people with minor social disorders live perfectly happy, healthy lives, and just learn how to adjust to social settings a little differently than other people adjust to them.
It sounds as if you have Asperger's Syndrome which is in fact a sort of high functioning Autism. My youngest son (22 years old) has it and many of your self descriptors could be those of my son's.
I would urge you to see a Doctor in order to be tested and properly diagnosed. If you do have a form of Autism there are programs that may be able to help you, but most programs end at age 18. Good luck.

Autism is a spectrum- from mild (probably not the clinical term) to more severe. My friend with Asperger's doesn't take ques in conversation. Like, usually when speaking to people, you sense when they want to say something or it's time for the convo to end. He doesn't get it and I have top be more direct.
I guess you could get tested, but it also could be that you are just not outgoing.
Maybe discuss your concerns with your parents and/or contact an autism support group to obtain resources that you can explore.
okay thanks for the answers... i most likely just aren't talkative or simply have a mild issue that doesn't matter to figure out.
