Sometimes I feel like Norman Bates. But I don't talk to myself out in the open. But personalities in my mind speak to themselves.

Is it normal for a person's mind to have multiple personalities?

It's normal for a person to have what some call a "conscience" or an "inner voice". It is also normal for auditory memories: parts of songs, snippits of conversation, lines from movies, or even noises you have heard come to your "mental attention" sometimes.

If you have experiences like this, it is normal. If you are experiencing voices in conversation with each other, which you seem to have no part in, or seem like "stranger's voices", you may be experiencing auditory hallucinations. There can be many reasons to have auditory hallucinations, but all of them should be discussed with and investigated by a medical professional to discover their source.

If you hear different "characters" or "personalities", this is not considered "Multiple Personalities". What most people call Multiple Personality Disorder means having distinct personalities that inhabit a single mind. Typically this means that a person will experience periods of "lost time" or gaps in memory because each identity occupies the whole consciousness for separate periods. If you are experiencing gaps in memory where you cannot account for time that has elapsed you should also speak to a medical professional about this.
