I tried Lexapro several years ago for 6 months and hated it. It didn't do anything to help me, and I actually felt worse because i had no interest in girls or sex. I am reasonably certain that this effect was directly due to the medicine, since i was a Typical Guy (i.e. thinking about sex 24/7) before i started taking the meds and again shortly after stopping.

I think I am at a point in my life where I need another anti anxiety / anti depression med, but am reluctant because of this side effect. I have been researching, and it looks like this is a very common side effect of many meds. I can live with a med that makes my sex drive drop a little bit, especially if the med works for me. But the Lexapro thing was pretty severe. I am already depressed to begin with... the last thing I want to do is take away from one of the few things in life i still find pleasurable.

Any recommendations? I am meeting with a Dr about this next week.

Thanks so much!

Wellbutrin isn't quite as bad as Lexapro in that department. In fact, some doctors will presecribe Wellbutrin in conjunction (with) Lexapro to offset the effects of Lexapro. Sounds odd but that's what they do.

Still, you should be talking to your doctor about this.
