I need the reefer! I need it to ease muh mind! LOL! It's been so long since I've smoked though...I've almost forgotten what it's like. Nevertheless I live in California now, so getting caught with a quarter ounce of pot would mean a summary fine at the worst. It's tempting......
I personally don't think weed's that bad. Go ahead and enjoy it.

I just moved somewhere like that (San Diego area), and this is my first holiday season here, as I've only been here a couple of months. It's not what it's cracked up to be. On sunny days, it is great....BUT it still gets dark here at 4:30 this time of year, and when it's overcast you still get that same wintery "feel" that you get in the northeast. I don't think there's any place in the united states where you can "trick" your body into feeling like it's summer during the winter months.

Having said that, I feel like I actually have cause at the moment to be a little celebratory. The sun has pretty much bottomed out in it's daily path across the sky, and by February it's higher angle will be much more noticeable here. Back in PA, the winter blahs were felt through March, and sometimes it felt like they didn't go away until summer. A higher sun angle and warmer temperatures doesn't mean s*it if you're socked in under clouds and getting pummeled with rain for days and days on end.

I am a real scrooge I hate to say. I love all the heartfelt things about the holidays but detest the pressure, anti climax and general letdown after such build up. I'm usually relieved it's o-vah!
Also, I let my daughter (9 y.o) open a few gifts early. I had spent a lot of time looking for things she would like. She did like the first two but then opened the beautiful big Scholastic dictionary I really loved and quickly proclaimed she did not want it!

I really don't like the holidays, essentially for the last 3 years. I just can't get excited about them when I have nobody in my life to share them with. Its a very sad time for me.

I know that had to feel so hurtful, I so sorry you had to experience that. I remember when investing so much time searching for gifts for my daughter, (she was in her 20's now in 30's,) the one gift that I thought she would find very special, she turned her nose up at, I was heart broken. I don't blame you for letting out those words at the end of your comment.

You are right about it being anti-climatic, all that running around to find the perfect gift and then have them thumb their nose at you or worse yet regift it to you the next year.

Well at least I have a big needle to look forward to for the holidays and hopefully some pain relief. Please keep me in your thoughts that the doctor will be gentle in get it right the first stick.

Eh, I'm torn. I like the time off from work, the food (I usually make some munchies and get some Egg Nog and rum for Xmas), the movie A Christmas Story (not 24 hours straight, though). I hate the emotional detritus that the holidays stir up every year, the godawful Christmas music, and the rampant commercialism.

And, I don't mean to sound like a Scrooge, but I really hate being harassed at every turn to donate here, there, and everywhere, and I hate workplace gift exchanges. I try to decrease the level of stress on myself by shopping throughout the year; that way I can avoid all the incivility and madness that happens in the stores this time of year. I don't like being obligated to go out and spend $ on some crap for someone I don't really know that well. Can people stop pretending that our coworkers are some ersatz family? It's awkward.

I hated the workplace crap myself. Working in an office seems to be the worst for the gift giving in my experience. Years ago I worked in an office and the boss hated me and I didnt like her either. She gave me a gift. It was so awkward. She probably felt she had to since she gave the other women in the office a gift but the whole thing was awkward. I'm sure she was just full of joy picking something out for me. One time I requested not to participate in the Secret Santa crap. Oh boy, everyone freaked. The do gooder in the office set the limit at 30 dollars. Are you freaking serious? I ended up getting pushed into doing it. I received a large coffee set which was nice however I hate coffee and never drink it. All I kept thinking is how that person could have spent the 30 bucks on someone important in their lives. I gave the gift set to my mom, she loves coffee.

It's the thoughtlessness that counts!

I am often aware of the waste of spending on gifts when so many more worthwhile things could be done with the money.

Yes, charities do push very hard and it must be because this is their most profitable time of year. I try to donate throughout the year and don't make contributions during the holidays.

And when will the family finally actually "pare things down" as they say they will each year? The spending seems to escalate into an obscenity.

It does NOT get dark in Florida by 4:30. It has everything to do with where you are located with regards to the equator and also the time zones. When I lived in New England it was dark at 4:30 and miserable. I was delighted to see how long the sun shines in Florida. The sun will set today at 5:40 p.m. in Fort Myers, Florida, and hour after Vista, Calif. Where I grew up? The sun sets today at 4:19! It will set where I am in Knoxville, Tenn. at 5:20 p.m. Thank goodness!

Regarding beautiful winters, it is GORGEOUS in Florida throughout winter. It's 80 right now!
