I had mentioned in another post about an MD I had been seeing years ago for allergies and found out later that he had committed suicide. I was shocked and then decided to do some research on this subject:
Doctors, under those white coats, are just the same as the rest of us. They experience the same emotions and hardships.
I don't find that "shocking" at all.
It is my only experience with this issue in my life so it was a shock, but I know they are all people. For years the doctors were looked up to as gods but it took a long time to get beyond that thinking.
God's? Seriously? I don't know anyone who views doctors as gods.
They are human beings with a lot of stress, so it's not surprising that the rate of suicide is higher.

Many doctors are heavy drinkers.... we had one in the 50s who came on house visits reeking of whisky and expected a drink before he left.. and HE was driving..
Millions look up to doctors as their saviors but many are trying to go less and less, I'm one of them. Years ago doctors used to push smoking cigs. Ads showed docs smoking their camels. Many docs get caught up in the drugs they prescribe. Who has the most access to these drugs.
Come to think of it, I heard many yrs ago about a pediatric dentist in our area who committed suicide.
I've had a few good doctors in my life and a good number who didn't help me at all, so I'm not bad mouthing doctors, they just do not know it all and I liked the female doctor who brought me into the world in my parent's apt.

Maybe you've had great experiences with them, I have not. And I don't think I'm alone.
you are definitely not alone.
I don't see it as "preconceptions" -
one bases ones opinion on experience and on facts.
I could tell you many personal experiences where doctors told me wrong information.
For example about 30 years ago I had psoriasis. I went to 2 doctors, both of them highly regarded, and was told by both, "You'll never get rid of it."
I got rid of it.
it would take a day for me to recount how many similar experiences I had and others' I know had.
you only have to look at the fact that
"Medical errors are 3rd cause of US deaths" acc to researchers.
Maybe you've had great experiences with them, I have not. And I don't think I'm alone.
Doctors are human beings. Like lawyers, trash men, actresses, baristas, internet commentators.
Yes you have an odd preconceptions about doctors. And yes, you are probably not alone.
People dehumanize others all the time based on some outward clothing like a doctor's coat, a police uniform, baggy pants, a veil.
Surprise surprise though, they experience happiness, jealousy, depression, tiredness, altruism, selfishness, etc. You know the list since you are also human.
