Good question. I think if they have an unusual name that gets them attention, it could affect who they will become. It could be either negative or positive attention.

I have an ordinary first name common to girls born in the late 1950's and early 1960's. I am an ordinary person.

I have a very different name. It has caused me small but constant problems my whole life. I really like my name but I would much rather have a simple more common name.

I believe that parents do their kids a disservice when they name them unusual names or common names and spell them in some crazy way to be cute.

I always wondered if my childhood might have been different if I had a more "common" and popular name...Who knows? My parents weren't the kind of people who followed trends. And this definitely affected me too. (Even today!)

Hmmm. good question, maybe on some level yes, especially if you're a woman. for example: People have often told me they like my name and think it's pretty. I have what 'most' people consider a sexy, feminine name...unfortunately for me I have never lived up to it and people are usually disappointed that the looks don't match the name. Back in college I met up with this friend of a friend and he literally said to me: "Ohhh.......I thought you would look different, no big deal though." He didn't go into what he meant, but I could tell he was probably duped by the name. Oh well.

P.S. I do like my name though!

All I can say is that many of the men I have come in contact with who are Jr's, 11's, 111's and so on, have a been really screwed up, as they attempt to walk in their fathers footsteps. And, some of the names that are passed on are just awful...why keep punishing the kids by saddling them with these outdated dumb names.

So yes, I say that it does play a part in who they will or will not become.

JMO, that's it.
