I have a serious problem with patience and having a short/explosive fuse if you will.

I'll "Blow up" at any moment. It's like a car that suddenly overheats. I HATE IT! Before you know it, I'm in a shouting match.

YES, I said HATE. That's they way I feel about it. I feel so terrible after the "storm"

I HATE BEING THIS WAY!!! I need help. Self-help books and all of the jazz is not the answer. I need a "pro" to help me.

The guy I want to be is: Cool, calm and collected. I want to look back 10years from now and say, yeah, another issue solved.

I'd appreciate any info,

Thank you

PS-I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE ANY MEDS!!!!! NONE!!!

You are going to need stress reduction therapy, to include deep breathing, meditation, positive visualization and other forms of mental and physical training. Perhaps you should find someone who can train you in Buddhist practices of patience and letting go of emotions.

I think any good experienced therapist should be able to help you. Why don't you ask around in your community to get some referrals. And don't be afraid to try a few til you find someone you click with.

Psychiatrists could diagnose you, but they would want to put you on medication.

Find a therapy or a combination of therapies that work on your anger issues and emotional work.

I know you don't want to take any medication, but sometimes certain things are missing from the normal body components. As more and more is learned about this sort of lack, and it's resulting mental and physical problems, it doesn't really make good sense to refuse medication.

It might take only a very short period of medication to get you started in the right direction. Once you can see yourself becoming able to control your anger, medication might not be needed.

Give it a try!!

What a crock. You've bought the pharmaceutical industry's marketing hype . . .there is nothing missing from "normal body components." What does "normal body components" even refer to (specifically)?

Medication is NOT THE ANSWER . . . seek the root cause of your problem . . .take a course in anger management . . .learn about yourself and what sets you off . . . eat right, take care of yourself . . .pay attention to your triggers . . . take responsibility for yourself and try to become more conscious.

Speaking of crock ...so diabetics aren't really having problems processing sugar? I don't think meditation is going to help there. And people who are genuinely clinically depressed (not just "blue") can be cured with eating right? While I certainly agree way too many people take too much medication, and some of the things you suggest can be helpful, just as suspicious are the people who claim you don't need medication for anything. Sometimes short term medication can help you get to a place where you can get to the underlying issues. Sometimes you do have a brain chemical imbalance that needs to be supplemented.

OP, I would ask your primary care doctor for a referral. It may take a while to find someone you click with. Also, tell your doctor what you're looking for in a therapist--that should curtail some of the looking around. And good for you for wanting help. Good luck.

I'll bet you didn't take biology in high school or biochemistry in college.

And if you did, your teachers must have been stuck back in the 18th century.
