Internet addiction is real, researchers out of the University of Bonn say, and its source can be explained at the molecular level.

Researchers from the school's departments of psychology and neuroscience report in the September 2012 issue of the Journal of Addiction Medicine that a simple variation on the CHRNA4 gene results in a significantly higher prevalence of Internet addiction -- and particularly in women.

Seems to be its fueled by many things, and many different types of people. Lonely people spend a great deal of time online, shy people with social anxiety, those obsessed with playing games, those that love listening to music, those that follow the social trends of charting every move on FakeBook and like sites.

It's a God send to those with disabilities that keep them from getting out, its a window to the world. Do they freak out when they lose their connection or their computer has troubles, sure, much like people once did about the TV. The internet is also a play thing for nasty cowardly people, as they can remain anonymous while taking shots at people without ever worrying about a broken nose. For unfaithful spouses, and pervs it's a paradise for lies and deceit. Let's face it many peoples lives are far from ideal. Those with no friends or family often come to view forum friends as family. Their world is more online than offline. That's not ideal of course, but it might be helping the sick and troubled hang on and feel someone cares out there somewhere.
