Is it an obsessive type of problem...? I've had problems with this for a while now. I have these negative thoughts that get into my head...and they repeat themselves hundreds of times daily, back-to-back. Sometimes I feel "mentally tired" from these thoughts. Not to mention, they are SO NEGATIVE.
For instance, just as an example, let's just say the thought is "I want to die, Lord please just take my life."
That exact line will run though my head like a tape recorder...back-to-back...all day, throughout the day, over and over and over and over again. Can I function at work? Yes. I'm able to concentrate. But sometimes the ruminations step into my thoughts while working, too. But generally, they come throughout the day. Some in the morning upon waking, while getting dressed, on the way to work, while at work, on the way home, while eating, surfing the net, just any time at all, these thoughts play in my head.
I'm starting to feel "weighed down" by this. I just wish it would stop.

some sort of psychobabble, however, not only am I not formally educated in such matters I think it is ill advised. Imho I would recommend that you begin with a visit to your doctor (if you do not have one have a trusted family member or friend refer you to one...or check with your medical insurance provider) to speak with him about how you've been feeling. He/she will likely conduct a physical exam and perhaps have your blood pulled as well as some other diagnostic work-up as he may deem necessary.
After all of the diagnostic results are in he may make a suggestion to you for a course of treatment...for whatever the circumstances require.
Best wishes to you and sincerely (and not to appear to be condescending) in the meantime, try to get outdoors and get some fresh air and sunshine for a period of time each day.

HIW...
I've been to a doctor. I have a therapist that I had been seeing weekly for a year up until this summer when I moved out of state. I infrequently see a psychiatrist, who put me on Prozac a year ago.
My labs are run by my current primary care physician pretty often, who knows I have moderate depression, and they are pretty normal with the exception of being Vit D deficient, which I just started prescription supplementation for a month ago.
InNeedOfAdvice...I can't say this will help, but maybe?..could you write out a real nice positive thought (maybe even a caption under a real cute picture) and stick it on the bathroom mirror so you'll read it first thing in the morning and concentrate on THAT thought for your day?..just an idea...
One method of CBT that works well for some is to rewrite the repeating negative phrase as a positive phrase that sounds similar. For example "you're so dumb, just go die" would be "you're so fun and full of life". It helps to rewire the signal because it sounds similar and is easier to trick the brain into thinking of different words even if they are diametrically opposed, one statement being very negative the other very positive. Many times these phrases come from loved ones or peers from our past during important stages in life. Taping these phrases to the mirror is a great idea as stated by a previous poster. Also digitally record it and listen to it repeatedly if need be. Use different tones and inflections too. Good luck getting your happy back. Embrace your shadow so you can find your light.
Have you shared this particular issue with your therapist, psychiatrist or physician? I am curious about how they have responded.
It does sound frustating to have those thoughts repeat in your head throughout the day. And I can see why you feel weighted down.
I like the idea of writing out some positive thoughts and whenever you are struck with the negative thoughts, perhaps you could train your self to replace them with positive (I think that's what was suggested above).
I don't know how effective it would be for you, but I think it's worth a try.
Have you ever read the book by Dale Carnegie, "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living (paperback $7)?" My doctor recommended it to me and it has helped a lot. He said to read it with a marker and hilight the pertinent parts. Very practical and helpful.
you just have to change those negative thoughts into positive ones and it isn't easy. Look into the mirror and say the positive affirmations over & over until it feels normal and you believe them. As soon as you find yourself thinking those bad negative thoughts stop it immedicately and have a nice long talk with yourself. You have to like who you are and it doesn't hurt to pray over it either. Therapy might help too. I will be the first one to admit that I see a psychiatrist & I am not ashamed to say it! Good Luck!
