I started on Lexapro a little over 5 years ago. We began at 10 and over the years, I had to increase. Dosing with Lexapro tops out at 60mg.
It's all about body chemistry. Just because you may need a higher dose certainly does NOT mean you are in worse shape than people who respond at a lower dose. If you feel better on 30mg, celebrate that!
The Lexapro isn't/wasn't working at all. I just started on Cymbalta and feel a lot better. 30mg of Lexapro did nothing for an entire year, so I requested a change in medication.
One huge benefit of Lexapro: It really helps if a person has a problem with public speaking. On Lexapro, you won't be nervous speaking or presenting to groups.
I too am on Lexapro for several years now and it has helped me immensely and you are the first person I've seen that is near to taking the dosage that I do, I am on 60 mg. Prior to that, I was on Paxil but after taking that for several years, it lost its effectiveness. Doctor changed me to Cymbalta but that did not help me at all, in fact, it kept me from getting a good night's sleep. I'm down in the dumps (for about 3 weeks now) do not feel like doing anything. Will be seeing my Doctor at the end of the month, but will be calling him to see what's going on w/my non interest, depression, etc. Good Luck!
ON 10 mgs currently to help manage tinnitus,,might consider going up to 20 since dr.told me 10 is a teenager dose..lol. we shall see. No side effects to mention
Deb
Do any of you have weight gain from it? I took it about a decade ago but didn't take it long enough to remember any effects. I tried Paxil once too but it made me nauseous.
Ok, I don't know your history or how bad your issue is, but I have some info. Please don't try this without talking to your MD about it. I have been on Lexapro for about 3yrs on and off. And, other different anti-anxieties since I was ~22. (about 20yrs ago) I hate taking them. Lexapro has been the best in regard to side effects-basically none. So, you're on a good one, IMO.
Fast forward to a few months ago. I got forwarded an article about a teen who was anxious (severely) and nothing would help her, meds wise. A MD put her on a trial of probiotics for 3 months. IT HELPED. Within a year, her anxiety was well under control.
I tried and put myself on probiotics a few months ago, while weaning Lexapro. I am doing better than I was while on Lexapro or any other anti-anxiety! I am serious. If you'd like, let me know if you're interested in the article, and I can try to find it. (it was months ago, like 6 or 8)
For now, google probiotics and anxiety. I never knew this but our bodies have 2 brains. One in our head and the other in our gut. Serotonin is actually PRODUCED in our gut, it's our brain that doesn't utilize it properly. Have you ever gotten really upset about something and totally lost your appetite? Yep, it's cuz your gut is directly connected to your brain via a nerve (I need to google the nerve name, I keep meaning to), so when you're brain is upset, your gut gets the message, hence the loss of appetite.
Interesting stuff, and I am doing GREAT on these probiotics! Plus, they are critical to your immune and gut health….I now have my kids on them, too.
If you're interested, speak with your MD at length about it before stopping your meds to try this. It may not work for everyone…..

Just curious...in what form are you taking these probiotics? How much?
