I couldn't tell you. I began to read it, and became so upset I quit. It is a very long article, I scrolled to see how much more was left to read, and there is no way I could continue.

I do agree, however, from what little I read, that treatment has got to start ASAP when young people begin to desire children. How to determine this and bring treatment into practice remains unanswered.

Any one have any viable ideas?

Castration? Perhaps estrogen therapy? Maybe even aversion therapy of some kind? These are VERY disturbed individuals and stopping them from acting out their sick fantasies should be a priority.

It would seem that it might be a legitimate sexual orientation. I sure as heck know that I always loved getting kissed by Ms. Ria when I was in kindergarten & admired her curves even at that young age. Gay, lesbian & bisexual individuals also realize their attraction when young & have to come to terms with it, sometimes in an unaccomadating environment.

Perhaps pedophilia is also a sexual orientation? It certainly seems that way & may not be a choice. The subject of the story has said that he enjoys watching those videos, but the obvious pain involved for that poor toddler he was viewing horrified him. So it's not as though he is without empathy.

I simply cannot imagine being in such a situation. Very few people can, it seems. The psychiatrist herself acknowledged that she was not qualified for such a situation. I'm curious as to how the German institute developed it's policies & ideas. Very interesting & hopefully showing promise.

pedophila is NOT "sexual orientation" and those who try to claim it is have an agenda to normalize this most heinous of crimes.

Pedophiles objectify their victims, robbing them of their humanity to satisfy their vile predilections.

Pedophilia is evil, pure and simple.

I read most of the article. It is not a sexual orientation. I don't think it is about sexual attraction at all! As much as I see an "ick" factor with the LGBT community, if they are adults and engaging others who are willing to be engaged, I don't see an issue. When it comes to children, it is an issue and I believe those that want to sexually molest children are mentally disturbed and need to seek help. I would have great admiration for someone that recognized their desire to sexually molest children and went and got the help. I don't know where the desire comes from but seeking help and realizing it is wrong and wanting to make sure that they don't act on it is admirable to me. Now, the ones that act on it, I have many ideas what should happen to them and no, not castration since to me, this is rape and rape is a crime of dominance and violence. Seriously, I read of such a rape of a 2 year old and the child died from it. Give me 2 minutes with that offender! Another thing that infuriates me is those that watch the child porn and feel since they don't act on the desire that it is OK and don't see the harm being done to those children. See, they don't see the harm in those children being in the film but in reality, I don't believe that is true. If they had a sense of right and wrong where children were concerned, they wouldn't be watching it in the first place. What, the one thought it looked like the kids were enjoying it? Ah, so he could later justify that he wasn't hurting them if they appeared to enjoy it in the porn show? I wonder how many of these peculiar sexual/violent/abusive/molest behaviors would be avoided if the person didn't spend hours alone viewing porn.
