So yesterday I lost my job for the 3rd time in 2 years, due to socially not fitting in with the company culture and for performance. I tend to bust my tail with certain things, but if I see something wrong, I tend to just not fix it and move onto the next thing. Or for example, if Im reading something thats 20 pages, I can only get to the 2nd page and then I give up and put it away. Ive dealt with this since I was young, but whats it considered to be? Im not lazy, but is it a form of laziness, stubborness or something deeper? I really need to fix this issue!

Hummm.... That is a problem MANY workers have these days! You are not alone.

I always thought it was that they just did not care. Lately I'm thinking that it is due to the way they were raised (their parents did everything for them). Is that the case?

The way I was raised (I'm an older person), if we wanted something, we had to work for it. Do yard work, mow lawns, paint, be a newspaper delivery boy, and about 16 or so, get a job.

If you are the way you are because you were raised that way, then it will be VERY difficult to change that. There are some jobs which are very closely supervised - maybe a year or two of that with EXPLICIT rules from you (to MAKE you read that 20 page paper or fix things which need fixing) could do the trick?

Generally (so far as I know) closely supervised jobs like that are provided for developmentally disabled people. I don't know if some place like that would help you or send you hiking because you "don't qualify" (are too intelligent). Most places and programs like that will not bend and will only accept people who qualify. But no harm in asking!

Also there is "occupational therapy". May want to ask around about that.

So far as the getting along with other people thing (or whatever), counseling can easily fix that. Go find a counselor. Note that your local county health department may offer no cost or low cost counseling - and/or can direct you to appropriate private counseling if you have insurance.

Good luck!

go talk to your doctor. They have medication for ADD, which you might have.

You may have other issues but I doubt you were fired for not fitting in socially. People don't get fired for that alone. Your performance is most likely the primary culprit for your termination.

If you were a top performer, but didn't fit in, management would look the other way.

cm5878, I would recommend talking to a psychologist. They can do some tests to see what is going on. Best of luck to you wish this issue.

I can't add anything - I think the advice given so far is pretty sound. I just wanted to add that I cannot read twenty pages of rules or whatever. I can't read a book. However, I wasn't always like that. I used to read quite a lot. I too have anxiety and have had it all my life. I was not given anything on a platter but I wasn't mistreated as a kid either.

All the best to you
Take care
