Assuming you've done the hook up thing on occasion, do you get paranoid over the possibility of contracting STDs? I know condom use greatly reduces the possibilities, but there's always a chance that something could go wrong. Has this paranoia gotten in the way of you following through with performing sexual acts?

I don't know why, but lately I've been a lot more concerned with this sort of thing. I always use the appropriate contraceptive, but it's still in the back of my mind before and during the act.

Any medical professionals' input is welcome.

Healthy precautions are always recommend and what's "normal" is subjective.

Examples from my own life:
1. When younger, although I used condoms, i had an intense fear of getting HIV even if my partner was a virgin since you can contract it in many other ways such as oral sex. I think this was a largely irrational fear almost to the point of paranoia.
2. The last date I went on the guy told me he has had over 200 sexual partners (and i appreciate his honesty.) In my mind he was a walking STD and that's all I could think about so I did not have sex with him. A wise choice IMHO.

Bottom line, if it is a *new* obsession that is interfering with your life, there is probably something else involved such as an increased awareness of your mortality, change in responsibility, increased anxiety in general, etc.

Having sex with strangers is always a risk, a stupid one at that because it's so preventable by decent men with any fraction of self control. But it's a risk you want, so its the risk you take.

Then you have these women who put holes in condoms so you wont notice it and deliberately sex horny, stupid guys while ovulating so they can trap ya'.

You could always just not have sex with strangers. It's thoughtless and dangerous. Condoms can break, and warts and herpes bumps and things can exist on the skin where the condom doesnt cover. And then you want oral sex too with condoms for you and her? You do know people can have oral herpes and syphillis inside the mouth, right?

Why not just masturbate or use toys like I do, its a lot safer. The risk is zero. And look how not sexually frastrated and how satisfied and dirty I am.
