I am 71 years old, male and in fair health. Almost three years ago I had an episode of Transient global amnesia. It lasted from about 9:30am until about 7:30pm the same day, when I started to 'come out of it' in ICU at the hospital. The hospital in the small town in which I live could not diagnose my problem until they talked to a neurologist in Little Rock, Arkansas. It seems as if no one really knows what causes this problem and I was wondering if Lyme disease could be the culprit? Lyme disease is another thing that is hard to diagnose and I have been bitten by a tick about a year before TGA. I also have some of the symptoms of Lyme disease but those could be from other causes. Any ideas? Thanks.

Lyme Disease is now in every state in America - it is a growing epidemic and should always be considered when more obvious reasons for an illness are ruled out

However, given your age and the lack of any other symptoms related to Lyme, I would say this is more likely a sign of some kind of vascular disease process, possibly even some kind of small stroke. Were you evaluated for vascular disease?

TGA is diagnosed only after a stroke has been ruled out. I fit TGA to a tee. I was given just about every test there is that would relate to TGA. They gave me a CAT scan at the hospital. An EKG was next. Then a neurologist hooked up over 30 wires to my head and ran tests. I had ultra sounds done on the veins in my neck, plus others. Also, I have just about every symptom of Lyme disease. I can't remember if I got a red ring at the tick bite site. It's been too long. I did have redness and fang marks when the Black Widow spider bit me on my upper arm though. I noticed no other symptoms from that.

Lyme Disease - Introduction to Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment

Many folks don't yet know that less than half the folks with Lyme Disease get the bulls-eye rash!

Didn't realize you had other symptoms! Okay then, you need to get the correct blood work done.

A regular doctor won't know what to order or even how to interpret the results.

Find a Lyme doctor in your area and make an appt right away. It will likely take a month to get in somewhere, as most states have only one or two of these specialists, when they have any at all!

DO NOT attempt to see a regular Infectious Disease doctor. This will be a waste of your time. Only those with recent infections are easily diagnosed by those kinds of doctors.

What state are you in slingshot?
