Years ago I had a friend that was manic depressive.......now bi-polar.
He took lithium......and it helped.
But, he would puff up like a balloon.....he said it made him feel "slow"........so he would stop taking it.
Then he would go back in the hospital.......over and over.
If I remember right lithium is a salt.
