You didn't mention if she is currently in treatment. If she isn't, she sure needs to be. If she is, then that's a good start, but maybe she should put romantic relationships on hold until she has more control over her illness. She doesn't sound like she's in a good place right now. I've spoken to a few people with schizophrenia, and I have close family with bipolar disorder. There are plenty of these people who are able to cope with these illnesses enough to live happy, productive lives for the most part, but your girl doesn't sound like she's there yet.
She's on medication. Atavan, Abilify, and Depakote to be precise. She also is seeing both a Psychiatrist and Christian Counselor on a regular basis.

Concerning the bold, I've thought that as well... but I wonder if she'll ever get better as there is no cure for this diagnosis.

Her meds may need to be adjusted, since she's still strongly symptomatic. Has it been awhile since she has seen the psychiatrist and had her meds checked?

Meanwhile, I'd advise you to be a good Platonic friend and put the romance aside, both for your own sake and the sake of this troubled young woman. You sound very caring, but she is not able to appreciate or reciprocate romantically right now without perhaps making her mental state far, far worse and leading to more complications and pain for both you. You certainly don't want that for her - or for yourself.

So be caring, be friendly, be warm and supportive, but remember, she needs a friend far more than she needs a boyfriend right now.

Best wishes to you and to your friend.

This is good advice and something that has been on my mind.

If the end result is that it won't work out, than it might be best to stop the course of progression.
