I am 15 and my attendance record is quite bad. I recently started getting pains, severe stomach aches is the best way to describe it. It started about two years ago when my parents split up. I have went to doctor and specialists. My 20 year old brother has some sort of mental condition. It's hard to explain, he is not crazy but he definitely is not normal. He is hard to live with. I also feel more angry towards people. Mainly my parents, I'd like to believe it was as simple as pubirty or something similar but im not sure. The pains don't really happen much anymore but i do stay home for stupid reasons. I don't know if stress plays a role in my absents from school or if I am just lazy. From ehat i gather it is stress but i don't know.
Thanks for reading this.
Can you talk to your school counselor about this? Also, it might be helpful to see the doctor and get your stomach issues checked out. Even young people can have ulcers or "nervous stomachs", and there are meds that can help this, once you know what's going on. Stress can certainly add to stomach woes.
If your brother is difficult to be around, do what you can to make separate time for yourself. Going to school regularly needs to be a major goal for you - try to take the long view and know that your current situation is not going to last forever (though it may feel like it at times). Cutting school is self-destructive and won't help you in any way, so get back in the pattern, talk with trustworthy teachers and tell them a little about what's been going on so they will be more understanding (You may have to make up work, be warned!).
Get back into the habit of attending school and try to focus your attention onto academics and school activities. After school activities will allow you to be out of contact with your brother in a way that he will probably accept and may help you make friends or at least friendly acquaintances. Try to structure your time at home so that you can focus on school work - if home is difficult, go to the library or a friend's house and study together, or see if there's an after school study hall.
As for your parents' split-up, that's always hard, but none of it is your fault. Would keeping a journal to write down your feelings help you vent and get rid of some of the anger and resentment? I'm sorry you're having to deal with this, but again, you won't always be dependent on your parents or around your brother on a daily basis, so keep your eye on the long view as well as making the most of each day right now.
Best wishes to you.
