I swear, I thought "cooties" and then I scrolled down and saw your comment. It's true. I'm a girl. We have cooties. I'm not supposed to tell, though.

And what's that exactly? I read it's a fictional disease but I really wonder what a fictional disease feels like then...

It feels like when you find no humor in a light-hearted remark.

Sounds like you need some sessions with a counselor/therapist to work this out and overcome whatever it is in the past that's triggering this feeling. If you're in college, you can get free counseling from their counseling center. Ask at the health clinic, if you don't know where the counseling center is.

If you love the girl you are with, why are you putting your arms around other girls? That little niggle might be guilt getting to you.

^This. It is obvious that something in the past happened whether it be to the OP or that the OP did to someone else and I am guessing that counseling is the only way to deal with it - talk it through. Another thought is to find a group online, mental health-type forum, where people have similar "issues" because of "similar" happenings since I think it would be more comfortable to discuss it with someone who has been there. Also, I think nearly every fair sized city has a mental health clinic that has a sliding fee scale based on your income/ability to pay. If OP belongs to a church, a minister might be someone who could listen.

Whatever it is OP, you need to talk it through and figure out how to resolve it. Don't deny yourself having a relationship for the rest of your life because of something in the past.

Seek Professional help from those who can actually help you Professionally not a bunch of random armchair professionals (me included).
Without a proper amount of time talking, an exam, evaluation and monitoring no one here would have any idea how to get you past whatever it is you are feeling.
