I really need to make some changes, and I think this is a good place to start, my self esteem has been the problem for years. And I want to change this most of all.

Without knowing much about you, it's hard to say. For me, I work out, eat right, etc, and stay in great shape and health. This article kind of spells it all out better than I can:

It seems like this is the go to answer with lots of people, but does it really effect your self esteem? I mean, I have been much healthier and in better shape than I am now, and my self esteem was still in the tanker.
Maybe I just should get on the wagon with it and see what happens. It wouldn't hurt, that's for sure.

Go to a hobby photographer who doesn't charge you or ask a friend to take tons of sexy pics of you. It doesn't cure you but it helps a little.

You asked what worked for "me" so I told you. It works for quite a few people but as other posters sometimes say, "your mileage may vary." I am sorry if it doesn't work for you. Maybe you need to find someone to confide in and get to the root of your self esteem issues.

Not all self-esteem is tied to your appearance. If it were, then it will degrade as you age.

Try to accomplish something. Learn to bake, sing karaoke, start a blog about something you are passionate about, become a Big Brother/Big Sister, volunteer at a homeless shelter.

Things are the kind of things I did and it worked wonders. Also, if you volunteer and focus on others, you won't be as concerned about yourself as much.

Get into great shape and finish some races of some time.

Or accomplish anything. Set your mind to something and get it done. Put out a record? Write a book? Have a photograph win an award? Whatever. Doesn't matter.

Focus on your health, specifically on your diet. With a healthy diet, comes a healthy state of mind and body. The fitness part will naturally come with all the feel good energy.
