The only advantage I have over a drunk is to ask him a couple questions... first, does he think he has a problem with booze? If not, I take a hike. Next question, does he want to do something about it? If not, I take a hike.

I will attempt to help a drunk but I will not turn my back to him, involve him with my family in any way, if he is blood, send him to someone else, and always leave the ball in his court. He is responsible, never me.

I just wish that you can/have get free of what they've done to you and keep yourself always between them and the door.

This is how i stopped drinkig or finally got it under control:

First step: I kicked my Valium addiction. I though it could never be possible. But miracousely it was. 2 months on 5mg then i stopped cold turkey. Indeed i had some whitdrawal symptoms like muscle pain for 5 days but nothing unbearable. Gradually i started to feel better as a matter of fact the longer time passed the better i felt. When i was on Valium at the end it only increased all sorts of anxiety and negative feelings. This was gone when i had been clean of Valium for 3 months. Also i noticed a decrease in impulsive behavior.

Step number 2: I went out to a bar because i felt like getting drunk. But what happened is this: I drank two or three beers and nothing happened. No high, no euphoria. Because i had no Valium running in my blood. Only a stupid sloppy feeling. I went home and that's it. This also the end of my story.

Alls i have to say is this: Stay away from benzos. If you have to have them due to mental issues if possible try not to use them for no longer than a month.

Happy new years to everybody and remember we all bear the burden of life.

Over and out.

Thank you. I don't have a magic mirror or Tarot cards. So as to what the future holds, i can only speculate.

Well said. You clearly have vision that stems from a long experience along the rambling road which is life.

Happy New Year Whitlock.

The only honor and dignity in Scotland is some of my Irish McGowdog folks out there in Scotland now, trying to teach them northern limeys how to make porridge to go with their haggis.

I'm sure Scotland is a fine place rich in history. I have family out there. I also have a bunch of family out there who are not even alcoholic. Genetics is only a part of the phenomena. I like the book Under the Influence to explain what role nationality, genetics, environment, etc. play on the malady.

When I banter about my fellow folks across the pond such as the Brits Irish and Scots, I kid.

Yup. Another thing I remember is the stopping is dangerous and when the physical aspects of the danger subside, then the mental torture takes over. Newly sober and untreated was no fun either. Utter confusion seems to follow, kind of like being a fish out of water.
