Hey all,
I'm going for a weekend to Mexico City. Whats the deal with taxi robbery? I will not be renting a car and will need to get around late at night. What can you recommend for safe evening transportation?
Thanks!
There is ¨Safe-Taxis¨ you can ask for them in the hotel-desk, they are more expensive but as his name safer. They can take you to any part of Mexico city and then you call them and they pick you up return to the hotel.
Getting around in mexico City is a blast and a learning experience for the regulars and also the tourists.
Due to the vast number of people there is a need for transportation and the METRO fills that void. Enter a station and on the wall will be a map showing your exact location and the other "Lineas" lines that cover the city. You can traverse from one line to another within the system w/o any extra expense out of your pocket. I loved it.
Taxis on the other hand abound in great numbers that can take you too/from a close by Metro. Either that many will walk the few short blocks to a destination of choice. You will see people walking all the time be it in a residential or commercial area.
Large families in a home may or not have an auto so they rely on public transportation.
Parking for many is a problem when away from home. Shopping centers are generally well occupied.
At the end of the Metro lines are large number of different size busses that take people into the surrounding areas or small outside towns...how about 300-400 at one time waiting to leave when partially or full of passengers. They leave on a time table from a person with a clip board.
Could go on more...just a sample of getting around in mexico City.
