Hi I have just arrived here in Baja but would like to buy a SUV to explore, I hold a UK licence but have found a lot of info on line regarding US licence holders and nothing for the Brits.

There are several questions that some knowledgeable person maybe able to help with:

1. I am currently on a tourist visa but would like to apply for work here, as a UK citizen can i apply in the US for the FM2?
2. Does anyone have a copy of the FM2 application form - i have been digging on line and cant find it?

3. Can i buy a car in Baja either with US or Mx plates and drive it on a tourist visa?

4. What is the situation for registration or re-registration of the vehicle if its US plated or Mx?

5. Do i need a MX licence?

6. Can I get insurance locally, most websites are orientated to US citizens.

Sorry thats an essay! Thanks in advance for your time

Karen

1. I think you must apply for an FM-2 locally at the immigration office. Not in the US. FM2 Immigrant resident visa — Inmigrante » Jaltemba Jalapeño

2. FM2 applications are only available locally. The office is in San Jose.

3. You can buy a car, but only a US plate can be driven legally by a foreign driver. Mexicans are prohibited from driving foreign plated cars.

4. You just have to renew the registration on a US car in the state it's registered in. South Dakota is a state where a lot of US cars are registered.

5. I hope your Spanish is good, because the test is in Spanish. They do allow translators. I believe you must have a MX drivers license to drive a MX plated car. The exception is for rent-a-car vehicles.

6. Yes you can buy insurance locally.
