Something we hear almost nothing about here in the USA. And, what's interesting is that Mexico has some very strict gun control laws. Citizens "taking on the police" probably is what some people worry about in the US. If the US was anywhere near that kind of reality I would be worried.
The Orwellian motto "War is Peace" comes to mind. War helps maintain labor peace by keeping labor revolt (strikes) and strife in check. Constant conflict and strife distracts the working class from their true enemy - the exploitation of them and their nations by the merged financial industrial cartels and agribus multinational monopolies. Monsanto and its like can come in there and displace millions of self sufficient farmers into the low wage industrial worker pool to drive down labor costs and increase profits for the Financial and Industrial cartels. Notice all this drug violence started in Mexico when the citizens down there were beginning to grow sour on NAFTA and were agitating on withdrawing from that treaty. When you are being constantly terrorized by the drug cartel's violence imperialistic exploitative free trade agreements are the least of your concerns.
Actually the government is thought by many to not be looking too hard to round up these groups who are attacking cartels. Media is interviewing leaders and yet they have not been even detained.

An armed and militant citizenry and especially labor force is feared by the power structure. They fear it could lead to an revolutionary overthrow of the state. That would be bad for the multinational corporations, financial and industrial cartels in terms of costs and profits they reap from exploiting the low wage working class. They would much prefer an helpless docile citizenry conditioned to having no rights that can bullied and pushed around. It just goes to show how much a farce the "War on Drugs" is. The citizenry due to necessity decides to arm and protect themselves because inability of the State to provide safety and order for them due to the outright collusion of the State with the criminals. The citizenry on the verge in being victorious in throwing the criminals out of their region by virtue of their near victory prompts the State to show their true colors by the State's act of stepping in and protecting the criminals.
What the leaders of the citizenry should call for a national general strike until a government is formed that is for the people as opposed to this current administration. The people have the numbers on their side if they unite and decide that they had enough of this. If not they can sit still and do nothing and let the current status quo be maintained while they get continually victimized by these criminals with the collusion of the State.
