Saw this on the news the other night.

With the economy in Miami as bad as it is already, how can anyone justify this type of action? Doesn't matter the race, it's just the amount of people.

PostPartisan - North Miami mayor invites Haitian immigrants

N. Miami Mayor Invites 55,000 Immigrants Into City - cbs4.com (http://cbs4.com/local/immigration.haiti.north.2.1783846.html - broken link)

Mayor Invites Haitians to Settle in North Miami | NBC Miami

If admitted, an estimated 10,000 Haitians will settle in North Miami according to Pierre, a Haitian immigrant himself. He says they would be able to send cash back to relatives living in the earthquake-ravaged country.

So, where are they going to house 10K people and what good will it do to put 10K MORE people out there to look for jobs that those who are seeking jobs already can't even find/get? And when they can't find a job, then what? And for those who do find a job, then to send the money they do make over to Haiti, not put it back in to our local economy? How about healthcare, who will pay for that (duh) not to mention other "incidentals"

AND, who says, once in N. Miami, that they'll stay in N. Miami???

MIAMI, gotta love it or leave it - I'm leaving!!!

He doesn't control immigration into this country. No reason to think that his wishful thinking will come to fruition.

A country built on immigrants/immigration is now xenophobic...so odd. As if all of the white-bread detractors of this are going to be down duking it out with the Haitian immigrants for the dishwashing/janitorial positions most will wind up working in...

North Miami already has 12% unemployment, why would they need to double their population with a mostly poor group of people who have little to contribute? It has nothing to do with xenophobia, it has to do with the fact that jobs and social services aren't infinite.
