Let all the critics take their shots now. i mean its not like anybody predicted we would be in the finals. they said we wouldnt make it past boston and we did that. they said we wouldnt make it past chicago but we also did that. we are only getting started. as time goes on, the pieces will fall into place, and more cohesion among the players will happen. then we'll really give the critics and naysayers something to talk about. but nonetheless congrats to dallas. they played like they wanted it more and im glad to see jason kidd get a ring

Remember it is "them" not "us". We have to PAY to attend THEIR games. Professional sports are a for-profit business, not played for the public good or welfare. The net effect is to withdraw wealth from the community. Ever notice that stadiums and arenas are surrounded by areas of depressed economic activity? Whenever a team can get more income by moving from an area they will. Paying overgrown kids to move a ball around does absolutely nothing to build real economic growth.

People didn't pick Dallas to get past the first round. The heat were expected to go far. They just failed. It was championship or bust for them and they came up short. Dallas had more heart and played as a team. I had a lot of respect for wade before, but maybe it's lebron's influence..because acted like an idiot this season. These guys acted on the floor..played dirty..sore losers( saw this when they lost during the regular season)..use pathetic tactics. Miami should win at least one with this group..but they will underachieve. They may even have to get rid of one of the big 3. It's just the way miami is..bandwagon town.

Well, analysts like Charles Barkley continued to doubt the Heat all year and pick against them, but Miami was hardly an underdog. The Heat were 4/5 favorites to win the Eastern Conference for most of the season. That means theoretically 5 chances in 9, or better than even money. Only during that stretch in late February/early March when the Heat blew games to the Bulls and Knicks and were blown out by the Spurs did the Heat tick above even money to win the East.

Boston made a poor trade and was eventually caught and passed by both the Bulls and Heat. Miami was -170 favorite (170 to win 100) to defeat Boston in that series, and -200 (200 to win 100) to defeat the Bulls in the Eastern finals.

The Heat were -180 chalk against Dallas. So you can see, the favorite's role followed them around. I doubted all season a team without a center or steady point guard could pull it out. But once they had home court in the finals and were playing confidently, the opportunity was massive. I was desperate for the Heat to shut up the haters. Sports may not impact daily lives but this situation was like our region versus every other, and it was guaranteed the blow back would be far beyond any projection should the Heat fail. Heck, we had posts in that regard in this thread.

I don't think the non-speculators grasped the mathematical impact of the blown leads. The sports media certainly does an inept job in that regard. If Miami would have held the 15 point lead in game 2, the Heat would have soared to 1/6 favoritism to win the title. If the Heat had held the 9 point 4th quarter edge in game 4, Miami would have emerged an overwhelming 1/10 chalk.

You can't butcher opportunities like that against a team basically your equal. That's why I started betting on Dallas in games 5 and particularly 6, when the spread opened a ridiculous Miami -6 points. Blown leads like that take a toll, including psychologically. Notice that Spoelstra was out thinking the situation to such extreme he changed his starting lineup for game 6, starting Chalmers for the first time in months.

We need a center. This team doesn't trust the interior on defense and over helps, leaving perimeter shooters wide open. On offense, Lebron and Bosh would have considerably more space and freedom to play their natural games if a big guy was posting up and demanding double teams. Lebron trying to post up from 18 feet away is asinine and worthless. He can't play with his back to the hoop.

Sorry if that rambled

Good thing about having bandwagon fans (unlike a place like Vancouver right now)--no riots when your team loses!

That statment just says two things. One you know nothing about the sport of basketball and the NBA and two you just hate the Heat for really no good reason.

Miami is not one of the top cities for sports, and it has some of the most bandwagon fans in all of the leagues
So true. Repped you on it.

I consider Miami more of a football city than any other kind of sport. You have young children playing Pop Warner football at an early age because for many of them, that's their ticket out of the ghetto. University Of Miami is so popular down there until it's a shame. Everyone has some kind of ties to UM.
