Nope. But even if that was the case, who cares? People will never stop being ignorant about it just the way people are ignorant about religion and a million other things. Life's too short to worry about political correctness and worrying about what offends who.

People from Columbia prefer to be called New Yorkers, though there are Columbians in Kentucky, Canada, etc.

The problem I see is that the term "Latino" or "Hispanic" is used politically as a "all inclusive term".
Since 80 to 90 percent of Spanish speakers in the US are Mexicans, Central American or PR, many people in Southern Florida don't feel part of that community.
