I was offered a job in Miami Beach. I want to live near where I work because I plan on either walking, biking, or taking some kind of public transit to commute. My salary will be between 65K and 80K. Is this enough to live in Miami Beach? I don't really care about living in any kind of luxury apartment. A one bedroom, one bath place for 1000 bucks a month sounds about right to me. Is this possible in Miami Beach? Hows the public transit? Could I maybe live in a somewhat cheaper part of Miami and still be able to commute to Miami Beach via public transit? tia

Your salary will be perfect for a single person on Miami Beach. The public transit on Miami Beach is pretty good, but the rest of Miami-Dade isn't as good. If you will work on Miami Beach the best thing will be to live on Miami Beach too.

I was under the assumption that even if you were offered a salary a little more then a half of what you were offered you could make due in Miami Beach. I think you will be fine no matter what you decide.

Hmmm...I know of some really broke people who live on Miami Beach. I also know of some extremely rich people who live there. It depends on what type of lifestyle you are after. Just because you live on Miami Beach does not mean that you have to hit up the local $40-per-cover clubs in your neighborhood 3 times per week.

I know a taxi driver and a restaurant hostess that live on Miami Beach. It's not expensive to live there; it's expensive to live there like a tourist.

You can easily manage, thought $1k/mo is quite low for rent, and you won't get anything good in south beach. Probably $1500 to $2000 is better, or you can look at mid-beach for better rents.

You can live on South Beach for much less. At my work on Biscayne Blvd, I had employees making 30k-35k living on South Beach. Most lived on Michigan.
